What do I do if I said yes on a robocall? ›

If you believe you're the victim of identity theft as a result of a "say yes" scam or any other phone scam: Immediately notify your financial institutions and credit card issuers. Contact each of the three major credit reporting agencies—Experian, TransUnion and Equifax.

In recent weeks, we've been tracking a wave of CVS Pharmacy scams utilizing phishing SMS text messages and emails. (Real CVS text short code is 898287.)

CVS and CVS Caremark are related but not the same. CVS Pharmacy is a retail pharmacy chain, while CVS Caremark is a pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) that administers prescription drug plans for employers and insurers.

Send an email to do_not_call@cvshealth.com with the phone number you wish to opt out.

If you answer the call, your number is considered 'good' by the scammers, even if you don't necessarily fall for the scam. They will try again because they know someone on the other side is a potential victim of fraud. The less you answer, the fewer robocalls you will receive.

Ignoring spam calls is a more effective approach than rejecting them. This is because interacting with the call can give scammers confirmation that your number is operational, possibly resulting in an increase of unwanted calls in the future.

Alert - Fraudulent Pharmacy Phone Calls

CVS Health wants to alert you of recent phone calls that are believed to be made by criminals who are posing as pharmacy representatives. In this case the criminals are spoofing a CVS Pharmacy's phone number and posing as a representative from the pharmacy.

Directly replying to a spam text message lets a spammer know your number is in use. After you reply, they can sell your phone number to other spammers who might bombard you with false promises of free gifts, product offers, and links to malware or spoofed sites.

Your phone can't be hacked just with a regular call — but phone hackers can use fake text messages to infect your phone, and suspicious no caller ID calls may be part of a wider ploy to access your device.

If you are speaking formally to someone like your manager or just some random person, then saying “Hello?” would definitely be seen as more polite. If you are just speaking with a friend you are acquainted with or a close family member, then saying “Yes” is fine.

Don't call back a number if your phone rings once.

Spam callers can hide international numbers with ID spoofing. These one-ring calls are bait — the fraud happens when you call back the spam number. If you must call back after a missed call, check the area code to ensure it's in the United States.
